Latest Purchases #64 – A Jewellery Haul

We’ve had a busy but lovely Saturday which included a lie-in (standard), mac ‘n’ cheese, cuddles with baby Ivy, a windswept walk, a quick half in the local pub and more Christmas presents. So far a great weekend! I wanted to make the most of today as I am spending tomorrow sat at my desk completing research, writing action plans and starting an essay for a course I am almost halfway through…I feel bucketloads of tea will be consumed to get me through the day!

Today’s post however is completely dedicated to jewellery and those little items that can make all the difference to an outfit. I have a bit of a mixed bag of items that I have bought over the past few months and it confirms my obsession with anchors too!

It’s no secret I love a charm necklace and wear one most days. This set of three necklaces in gold, silver and rose-gold look great layered and worn together or worn individually. The word ‘hope’ is engraved on one side of each disc, adding some additional interest.

This gold necklace has an engraved anchor design and I like that this is a little longer than my usual charm necklaces.

This one was a tricky one to photograph so you will just have to take my word that it looks very cool on. It has the unique split design of a gold and black arrow and is unlike anything I already own.

I love this ring! A gold anchor set on a rope-effect band, this is a delicate yet statement ring to wear.

IMG_1050 IMG_1052

This is a slightly larger ring but I really like the hammered gold effect.

IMG_1056 IMG_1057

A simple yet pretty ring, this heart ring adds a splash of colour.

Have owls/ foxes/ woodland creatures had their day yet?! I’m not sure but I still really like this statement owl ring.

A cute straw boater ring – a really unusual design to add to my collection.

I feel like I am constantly on the lookout for gold and black earrings as it’s a colour combination I love. These drop earrings are casual enough to be worn through the day but can equally be paired with a dressier evening outfit.

I really like the tribal look of these colourful stud earrings

I don’t wear too many hair clips/ slides but these cute silver feather and horseshoe ones look lovely.

 Have a great weekend! x

Latest Purchases #31 – Jewellery

I cannot resist cute things. Put these items on a piece of jewellery and I’m sold! I ordered these pieces recently and although I didn’t need any of them, they will fit in perfectly to my jewellery collection. To make up for the new arrivals, I even did a good sort out of my jewellery boxes last night, sending a nice little bag to the charity shop.

First up, the rings…

This gold mesh bow ring is quite a statement piece but looks delicate enough to wear every day.

One bow ring wasn’t enough for me so I also got this black spotty one!

I saw these adorable bear rings and loved how simple the design was so got them in gold and silver. They both have quite an industrial bashed-up look to them which I think is a cool contrast to the cute design.

Finally, a charm necklace. I own a ridiculous amount of these but wear them daily so I can almost justify another one. I love how unusual and kooky this piece is…I can’t say I have ever thought of putting a coat hanger and a string of pearls together but I think it works and is rather charming!

A nice little mid-week treat! xxx

Latest Purchases #27 – Forever 21 Haul

Well, we are starting this weekend with a very grey, cloudy sky which makes it hard to believe that we were outside in the garden in t-shirts this time last week! It is funny how much the weather affects your moods. Last week, I felt I could do anything and wanted to start new projects, cook new recipes and visit new places whereas today I feel much less energetic and am craving comfort food and a good box set with my boy tonight!

Today’s post is sharing some summery pieces I bought online from Forever 21 earlier this week.

I have only ever bought sandals and jewellery at the Forever 21 store in Birmingham, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from the clothes. I bought a mixture of sale and new season items and I have to admit that I had my summer holiday to the States in mind!

First up, my favourite piece of clothing, from the new season collection, is this pair of black and taupe polka-dot trousers. I wrote last summer about my love for printed trousers and they seem to be everywhere this season! There is a fine line between on-trend prints and looking like you have stepped out in your pyjamas so you have to think carefully about what you pair with these trousers! I absolutely love the silky-soft material and they have a slightly elasticated waist meaning they will be accommodating at those Las Vegas all-you-can-eat buffets! Hehe

haul26 haul10 haul8

Next up, bought to wear with the spotty trousers, is this beautiful, sheer blouse. I love the folds, the buttons down the back and the bow detail this has and although it is very sheer, it is chic and will keep you cool in the sun. This was a real bargain at just £7.99 too!

haul31 haul28 haul5 haul6

I recently had a good clear-out of my sandals and threw away a gold pair of gladiators that I loved but which quite frankly had seen better days. Therefore I was on the hunt for some new gold footwear because the colour goes with everything, especially a tan in warmer months! I love the cut-out design of this pair and I know Forever 21 footwear is comfortable too so I can see myself wearing these daily on holiday.

haul22 haul20 haul38

Some slightly more boring things now…cropped leggings for Pilates and a few basic vest tops which I popped into my basket.

I love Forever 21’s jewellery collection. In their store at the Bullring, it takes up over half a floor and I have often found myself popping in there to have a mooch and coming out with handfuls of necklaces and earrings! I saw this cool gold lightning bolt necklace and at just £1.65 couldn’t resist it.

haul35 haul33

Next, some dangly earrings, both at less than £2 a pair. I love the Great Gatsy/ art-deco look of these teardrop earrings and they are just big enough to make a statement without being too heavy to wear all day.

haul36 haul18

I also got these pretty beaded earrings which are quite big but delicate too. I can see myself wearing these a lot over the summer.

haul37 haul15 haul16

Finally, I decided to have a little look at the Men’s sections on the website to see if there was anything I could treat Ian to. It definitely wasn’t his style but they had some cool printed t-shirts so I picked up this blue one covered in little diamonds.

haul43 haul42

And that’s your lot – a nice little payday treat for this month! All of these items are available on Forever 21’s website but their sale items are changing daily. There is free shipping on any order over £50 and I have to admit that I hunted through for some additional items to take me up to the £50 mark so my purchases were more ‘worth it’!!! Does anyone else use this warped logic when shopping online?! Oh well, I ended up with a few extra pieces so I’m happy!

Latest Purchases #26 Matalan Shoe Event

So, I was just turning my laptop off last night after writing a post and an update from one of my favourite bloggers caught my eye. Matalan had just announced they were having a £5 shoe sale and seeing as it is on my drive home from work, I thought that it couldn’t hurt to pop in and have a quick look around!

I have mentioned before how comfortable I find their ballet pumps and for less than a tenner I usually pick up a couple of pairs throughout the year, mainly to wear for work. Today, I managed to limit myself to 3 pairs of ballet pumps but of course picked up a few more bits too!

First of all the shoes…

Black Suede Loafers:

shoe14 shoe15

Tan Leather Loafers:

shoe16 shoe17

And my favourites, these nude peep toe pumps with gold detailing and a lovely big bow on the front.shoe18 shoe19 shoe20

All three pairs were about £15 full price but I got them all for £5 each. The loafers are so comfortable and look great with tights or bare feet.

I also picked up a few pieces of jewellery. My bargain of the day was this gold ‘lips’ ring reduced to just 50p! I know it’s a kind of love/ hate piece but I think it looks rather rock ‘n’ roll!

shoe1 shoe2

Next, is this double chain with two little sovereigns hanging down. It is a mixture of gold and silver which I wasn’t too sure of but layered over a maxi dress in the summer I think it is perfect for a boho hippy look.

This three-layered gold chain is decorated in delicate little gold crosses and is a cool take on the goth trend that has been everywhere recently.

shoe6 shoe7

Finally, my favourite purchase of the day and my new favourite necklace…

This is a real statement piece and I just love the mink grey ribbon that forms the chain. Although it is quite a dramatic piece of jewellery, the gems on it are neutral enough to go with most colours so I hope to get some good wear out of it!

So that rounds up my little mid-week treat…you can never have too many shoes nor too much jewellery!

Latest Purchases #19 – Some New Jewellery

This weekend has flown by but they do say that happens when you are having fun, don’t they?

Yesterday, we made the most of some sunshine to get outside and fix our fence panels in the back garden. We inherited some rather rickety-looking ones when we bought the house and I am sad to say that one of them didn’t survive this awful weather we have had lately and was blown down in the winds!

Luckily, Ian’s parents came down to give us a hand and George was keen to help too!

photo30 photo29

Here is the finished result and I actually quite like the contrast in colours between the old, weathered wood and the newer panels, which will soon fade too.

Just being outside for a little while in the sun made me start thinking about my garden projects for the seasons ahead and the daffodils that should be here soon!

Today, I am sharing a few new accessories I have purchased recently. They were all online buys from various websites and if you want to know where I got them from then just leave a comment at the bottom and I will let you know!

First up is this lovely ‘Peace’ bracelet:

I’m not usually a huge fan of diamante but this is subtle enough to make it into my collection and I love how it can bring some sparkle to an outfit.

I also got this ‘Infinity’ bracelet on a turquoise band, which is a very popular style:

I have seen several of these bracelets worn together and I think is quite a cool, hippy look.

I also bought this ‘Anchor’ bracelet but gave it to my bestie as a present…I’m a good friend!

I am still making my mind up on these earrings:

They are a bit ‘fierce’ for me but I shall persevere as I like the unusual design.

Another nice necklace that can be worn with a casual or evening outfit:

I like the sharp lines of this piece and it makes a change from my usual charm necklaces.

A bit more of a statement piece:

This was described as a ‘Bunting’ design and I can see why. I love this colour and can see myself wearing it more in Spring and Summer.

So there you have it – a few pieces to add a bit of colour and interest to my wardrobe while we are waiting for the Spring/Summer collections to arrive in the shops!

Latest Purchases #18 – Moustache Jewellery

What is it about moustaches that just tickle us?!

From the skinny ‘Dali’ to the good old ‘Handlebar’, I think this fun trend will be on our high streets for a while. Quirky, whimsical and often quite retro looking I am a fan and one of my favourite pieces of nail art was my Moustache Manicure.

Moustache-wear (is that even a thing or did I just make it up?!) takes many forms…T-shirts, pyjamas, mugs, jumpers and today I wanted to share some of my jewellery.

I meant to blog about this to coincide with Movember but for some reason I didn’t get around to it in time!

If you don’t want to emblazon a moustache across your chest in jumper form then a piece of jewellery is a fun and slightly more subtle way to enjoy this trend.

I had a look on ebay and found a huge variety of jewellery in different colours, shapes and materials starting from as little as 99p!

First up, my necklace:

A lovely black pendent in a classic moustache shape, hanging at a good length on a thin gold chain.

My earrings:

A very cute pair of black moustache earrings, outlined in gold, these are just the right size for a statement pair of studs. Too matchy-matchy to be worn with the necklace, these are really versatile and, again, are quite a subtle was of flirting with the moustache trend.

Finally, my turquoise moustache ring:

I didn’t want to get three pieces that were all black and so I went against the grain and at the last minute I swapped the black ring in my shopping basket for this turquoise one, and I am glad I did. This is a great, bright shade that looks pretty cool on, although don’t try to put on a pair of gloves with it!

So, there it is…my three little moustached marvels for your perusal.

Have a great weekend – we are off for a quick one up the pub followed by one of my Dad’s lovely roast dinners! x

Latest Purchases #14 – The Sales

As I may have mentioned previously, I love a bargain so I am in heaven when the sales start.

However, over the years I have honed my definition of a bargain and will not buy something simply because it has a large ‘reduced’ label stuck on it!

My golden rules for sales shopping are:

  • Make sure you aren’t buying something that is a fad and will be out of style in a few months. I try to use the sales to buy classic, staple items that won’t date such as a good quality coat, smart black trousers, leather boots etc…
  • Shop smart! I have my eye on various items in the run up to Christmas that I check as soon as the online sales start, like the stripy jacket below. I was going to buy it anyway but decided to wait and see if I could get it for a lower price, and I did!
  • Make sure you buy the right size! It is very tempting to buy smaller sizes during the sales with the intention of going on a diet in the New Year to fit into them. I have done this in the past and it rarely works!
  • Ask yourself if you would buy it if the item was full price. If the answer is ‘no’ then the chances are you are simply buying something for the sake of it, therefore it is not a bargain!

With these rules in mind, I popped into a few shops after Christmas and here is what I came away with:

Black ballet pumps reduced to £5 in Matalan: I actually find Matalan’s ballet pumps very comfortable and black ones go with everything. I thought the delicate bows on the front of these made them look very pretty too and I would wear these out to dinner as well as to work.

sales16 sales17

Heart necklace reduced to £1.20 in Accessorize: I love charm necklaces and this red rose one is gorgeous. I have a thing for red accessories anyway so can see myself wearing this a lot.

sales13 sales14

Blue and white peacock scarf reduced to £3 in Matalan: This scarf looks a lot more expensive than the £3 price tag and I really like peacock prints. You can never have enough scarves either and this one is lightweight enough to wear through to spring.

sales2 sales12

Purple top reduced to £4.99 in Marks and Spencer: This top was reduced from £25 so was a real bargain. It is a very flattering cut so hides those extra festive pounds well! As it is one colour, it will be easy to dress this top up with some accessories.

Black and white stripy blazer reduced to £9 in Matalan: I have had my eye on this jacket for a few weeks so I was very pleased when I found it for half price in the sales. This is obviously quite a statement print to wear so I will keep the rest of my outfit simple when I wear it – probably black skinny jeans and a plain top.

Maroon Slippers reduced to £2 in Matalan: I love walking through the door and changing into a pair of slippers and I have them dotted all over the house. These maroon ones will be a lovely addition to my collection and are very comfortable.

sales4 sales7

Long stripy t-shirt reduced to £9 in Marks and Spencer: I got some lovely black knitted leggings in my stocking this year and was looking for some long tops to wear with them. This stripy one looks great with them and is just a bit different from the usual black and white stripy tops I always wear.

Black satchel reduced to £4 in Matalan: I favour satchel bags for work and was very annoyed when I noticed a tear in my current one. This replacement bag is a little on the small side but still looks smart and ‘geek-chic’.

FCUK lip-glosses reduced to £6 in Boots: I haven’t used any beauty products or make up by FCUK before but these lip-glosses looked so lovely that I couldn’t resist trying them out…I will let you know if they are any good!

IMG_4504 IMG_4508

Next Year’s Christmas Stuff: These items come under my ‘Shop Smart’ rule. I always buy my Christmas cards, crackers, stickers and wrapping paper in the January sales. It is so helpful the following Christmas to get all of it out of the loft knowing it is one thing ticked off the to-do list. It does mean you need the room to store it for the year, but if you have the space then I highly recommend it!

I have also ordered a few bits and bobs online so will probably write about these when they arrive.

Have you managed to bag any bargains in the sales?! x

Review – Gold Fairground Necklace

This is a sponsored post

The lovely people at Be Boutique contacted me recently about reviewing something from their lovely website.

Be Boutique offers a gorgeous range of clothing, footwear and accessories using a mixture of vintage items and new designers.

It was very hard to try and pick just one thing from this website (I was particularly taken by this gorgeous, cream knitted cardigan) but the magpie in me drew me towards the jewellery section.

Seeing that I have clothes in my wardrobe that range from a size 10 to 16, I am always slightly dubious about buying clothes online. I tend to jump between sizes in different shops so I always like to try things on, which is why buying jewellery online is always much more successful for me!

I finally narrowed my selection down to three beautiful charm necklaces and sent my requests off, letting someone else make the final decision for me.

So, it was with baited breath that I received and opened this box…

…and I was extremely pleased to see this lovely gold surprise waiting for me!

This sweet gold chain has a delicate little merry-go-round hanging at the bottom of it.

The detail in this is really good; 4 little gold horses and an embossed roof.

The length of this chain is perfect and it hangs just right – any shorter and it would look too bulky.

I am a big fan of charm necklaces (and have a pretty considerable collection now!) and this new addition will fit in perfectly, adding something special to any outfit.

This necklace is currently on offer at Be Boutique for just £8, and there are other lovely charm necklaces available starting at a fiver.

Thank you Be Boutique!
