Latest Purchases #107 – A Space NK Haul

Well, Trump was sworn in yesterday thus beginning one of the strangest eras in American politics. I wasn’t able to attend one of the #WomenMarch protests today but it was incredible to see so many people turning up to make their voices heard…with a fab selection of placards too!

Anyway, onto slightly happier things: a little box of goodies that arrived from Space NK. Most of these items were in the sale, some of which I needed, others were a treat.

First up, Space NK’s own brand Daily Fix Body Lotion. I like this range and use the bath soak when I need to really relax. This is very simple packaging-wise and I think the product is the same – not overly-fragranced, fresh and fast absorbing. My skin is quite sensitive at the moment so this simple body lotion is ideal for me and was actually reduced to just £1.50 for this large tube.

Next, I bought two products from luxe nail brand Rococo. Firstly, in the most beautiful packaging, was the Ultimate Nail Basecoat (£12 reduced to £3). This is meant to have dual qualities; to strengthen your nails and also to make your nail varnish look brighter and last longer. You can use this alone and keep layering on the product or as a traditional basecoat.

Also from Rococo is their Nail Varnish Remover which I stocked up on (£10 to £1.50)! This is acetone-free, which is meant to be slightly kinder on the nail, and I love the packaging. The actual bottle is great too – you simply press a cotton pad on the top of the dispenser and the perfect amount of product is released.

A bit of luxury next in the form of my first ever Diptyque candle. I have wanted to try one of these candles for years but could never quite bring myself to spend so much on a candle. However, when I spotted this one at half price (£28 down to £14) I decided to treat myself. Firstly, the packaging – in collaboration with artist Julien Colombier – is beautiful and I will definitely be keeping the glass after the candle has finished. The scent, Oliban, is not my usual choice but is a deep, sexy, spicy, oriental one. This was part of their Christmas range but is not noticeably festive-scented.

One thing I love about ordering from Space NK is the samples! I chose a couple of acid peels and a REN BB cream to try which I just think are lovely little extras.

I feel I was quite restrained in this recent haul – there was a Laura Mercier palette I was hovering over for quite a while but I got more than enough lovely things for Christmas that I want to work my way through before buying anything else.

Sunday Summary #44 and #45

Life

I’m back after a packed week in Boston! We had such a good time there and I am already writing up some blog posts from the trip and reliving the food and fun times. A big thank you to my parents who popped up while we were away and finished laying the tiles in our porch, put fresh sheets on the bed, left flowers and a huge vat of homemade soup for us…just what you want after a night of no sleep! It is back to reality today though as I am back to work tomorrow (no idea how I am going to get up in the morning #jetlag) and need to unpack but first, my Sunday Summary from the past two weeks.

Finally, the new series of Black Mirror is here! Ian and I love this show and it is such a cutting, dark look at society today. So far, we have seen the first three episodes and cannot wait to watch more.

I just can’t sleep on an aeroplane so I tend to binge-watch films. On this trip I managed to watch six: Finding Dory, The Shallows, The Boss, Money Monster, The Jungle Book and the new Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. I mostly picked easy-to-watch/ children’s films but Money Monster was really good (and has George Clooney in!)

Sadly I missed the final of GBBO but have now caught up and had a little cry when Candice won. I’m also still enjoying The Apprentice too.

Food

I have most definitely indulged this week! America just goes so over the top for Autumn and put pumpkin and spices in everything…beer, doughnuts, cheesecake, pancakes.

Ian bought me a bottle of the new Pumpkin-spiced Baileys which I have enjoyed on ice, in coffee and as a milkshake. If you like the Starbucks drink, you will love this.

You can’t go to Boston and not indulge in seafood. We had great clam chowder and lobster when we were away which we just don’t really do in the UK.

We visited a couple of breweries in America and enjoyed some lovely craft beers. My favourites were a pumpkin-spiced beer from the Octoberfest beer festival we visited and a blueberry wheat beer from Salem Beer Works which came with a handful of fresh blueberries floating in it.

Finally, I tried my first ever cronut and it was goooooooood!

Fashion

While we had lovely, sunny weather in Boston, there was a definite chill in the air so I lived in my ASOS parker, my tartan scarf (River Island) and my Wolf Academy beanie hat.

I have been looking at leather backpacks for ages and finally bought one when we were away. I like that it is practical yet still smart and I think it will be great for future city breaks.

Beauty

I did my first autumnal manicure using this lovely deep, berry shade from Nails Inc which actually lasted the whole week with only one chip.

img_8358

I suffer with dry skin after a flight so I decided to try and combat that by slathering my skin in Weleda’s Skin Food which I love. I am adamant it smells just like gin and tonic but it really works and gives your skin a real moisture boost.

img_8357

I also gave myself a mini facial when I got home yesterday using REN’s Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask which I find revitalises dull, tired skin.

img_8716

Finally, one of my highlights of our trip was a visit to Sephora. I actually went twice as got so overwhelmed the first time I left with nothing! I did get a bit spendy but I had budgeted for a few treats and will share them soon! Sidenote – I know we are meant to be getting Sephora in the UK soon and I kind of have mixed feelings about it. Yes, it will be great to have all the brands here but it will take away that excitement you get at visiting a store when on holiday.

Sunday Summary #15 and #16

Life

I wrote my last one of these weekly round-up posts the night before we flew to Havana for our Caribbean cruise. I am gradually writing up some posts on our holiday, but suffice to say we had an incredible time.

Whilst away, I read the fourth instalment of the Millennium series which revisited the world of Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist. It didn’t quite live up to the previous trilogy  but was gripping in places. I have since started another thriller, Before I go to Sleep which has a unique concept that I am enjoying so far.IMG_5903

Since being home, there has been a lot of catching up with friends and family, laundry, the gym and TV. We binge-watched our Sky Plus programmes this weekend, reacquainting ourselves with Girls, the OJ Simpson programme, The Island and also watched Jurassic World.

I am back at work tomorrow which fills me with equal parts of dread and excitement but it also means I am chained to my laptop writing reports today.

Food

I feel like I have eaten very well over the past week! The food on board the ship was exceptional and we also had amazing jerk chicken and shrimp tacos in Jamaica followed by fish tacos and Margaritas in Mexico.

I have since tried to recreate some of these dishes at home but sadly could not provide the sunshine too!

Beauty

My recent lash lift is still going strong and it was lovely to not have to worry about wearing mascara everyday on holiday. I would definitely have this treatment again.

Whilst away in the Caribbean, I had the urge to wear a tropical-inspired orange lip. This lip crayon in Tangerine Dream from Stila was perfect and has really good staying power.

Finally, I took away several mini products from REN. All were lovely on my parched sun-kissed skin, especially the face cream which I would like to purchase in full size.

IMG_5909

Fashion

Being blonde and pale-skinned, I burn really easily therefore I am all about hats when in the sun. I found this straw trilby on ASOS and wore it to death on holiday.

IMG_5865

Ian and I have a silly amount of Ray-Ban sunglasses (my personal favourites are my Wayfarers, Clubmasters and Erikas) but they are the best. They look cool and mine have lasted for years.

IMG_5858

Although I tend to live in dresses, I wore my playsuit several times on holiday and it has made me want to buy more. They are so comfortable and I love ones with cool prints on…I couldn’t find a single photo of me wearing mine though!
