Five Friday Favourites #17

Blood Brothers

It feels like ages ago that I booked these tickets for my parents’ Christmas present but the weekend finally rolled around to go and see this show in Bristol. It is my favourite musical and we all really enjoyed it. We had a fab day in the sunshine walking along the Harbourside, enjoying cocktails and eating pizza.

The Longs Arms

Another mention for mine and Ian’s favourite pub! We went up here for dinner last night as, and usual, it was stunning. We shared starters of lobster and a goats meat scotch egg then I had lemon sole while Ian had the lamb. I always look forward to pudding and seeing what crazy flavour of ice-cream is on the menu and this time we sampled root beer, cream soda, Nutella, peanut butter and jam and – my new favourite – Jaffa Cake.

New Earrings

I rediscovered these earrings that my best friend Lu bought me for my birthday. They are lovely silver swallows and I have been wearing them all week.

Becca Highlighter

This week, I have been really enjoying wearing the Shimmering Skin Perfector by Becca in the shade Moonstone as recommended by The Anna Edit. I like how natural this looks and I really do think it suits paler complexions.

I have been after a pair of pool sliders since last summer. I saw these in Primark and I thought they looked really fun and they are actually really comfortable. It’s one of the first times that I have stopped to wonder whether I am too ‘old’ for an item of clothing but then realised I didn’t really care and headed to the tills!

Marley and Wood Jewellery

Today I wanted to share an amazing little jewellery company founded by my friends Cat and Kim.

Marley and Wood specialise in ethically-sourced gemstone necklaces. Each comes in beautiful navy and gold packaging and is named after inspiring women in their lives.

I was lucky enough to receive the ‘Simone’ in white howlite, a stunning marble-effect gem. You can have these on silk cord (my personal preference) or gold and they are really reasonably priced for the range and quality…the hardest part is choosing which beautiful design to buy!

Latest Purchases #105 – A Forever 21 Haul

I have a real backlog of posts to write up and this little haul is from when we went to Boston in October/ November time! However, I don’t want the photos to go to waste so have decided to slot in the odd older post alongside my newer content.

As I mentioned before, the dollar was so weak when we went to the States we didn’t do an awful lot of shopping, but I saw a few pieces I thought were cool and a little bit different.

First up, is a huge, cosy tartan blanket scarf. I wear a similar yet thinner version of this all the time but this is a bit chunkier and doubles up as a blanket when needed.

I also got this leather backpack which I love! I had been after one for ages but couldn’t quite decide if they would suit me or not. However, it is handier than a large handbag and not as cumbersome. I also really like the velvet tassel and gold hardware.

I also picked up a few pieces of jewellery. This trio of rings are really pretty and I think look more expensive than they were.

This duo are a different style and include one normal ring and one midi ring.

This set of studs are great for everyday wear and I think they are really pretty. Although I have my ears pierced several times, most of the time I just wear a set of single studs.

I bought two necklaces too. The first was a rose gold pendant with an intricate pattern.

The second one was a gold double-chained necklace with triangles on the ends. I really like jewellery in a geometric design.

So, a nice little accessories haul which I always think is a great way to update an outfit! x

Sunday Summary #35

It has been my last full week at home before I go back to work so I have been enjoying some fairly chilled out afternoons, cooking, reading and making the most of my last few lie-ins.

This weekend, despite being rather cold, grey and rainy (autumn anyone?!), has been really fun. Yesterday, I went for lunch then to watch Bristol City play…and sadly lose. Then Ian and I watched The Martian and forced ourselves to stay awake to cheer on Mo Farah – I’m going to miss the Olympics when they finish.

We finished watching the second series of Scandal and it just got so bad we have abandoned it and aren’t going to watch Series 3. A shame, as it started well but just got so far-fetched in the end. We have started watching a British drama called The Five and so far, it is gripping.

Today, we went for burgers then to watch the new David Brent film, Life on the Road. It was hilarious and moving in equal measure – the song lyrics especially make me cringe and laugh.

I am off on holiday next week with Ian and one of our best friends so have been busy researching things to do and see. We are doing a mini-Scandinavian cruise stopping off in Sweden, Estonia, Russia and Finland and I cannot wait!

We had some sad news this week too – our village pub, The Muddy Duck, which we go to on a weekly basis is closing down. We were gutted when we read the notice on the door and Ian was on about moving as we love having a good pub in the village! I’m hoping a buyer is found soon and it doesn’t have to close but I am so sad it is changing hands and have so many good foodie memories there.

Our new bed arrived this week and it’s copper! I think it looks beautiful and I will write up a mini room tour in a few weeks when our new furniture and accessories have arrived…copper and leaf prints will feature heavily.

Finally, I listened to Nadiya Hussain’s Desert Island Discs (last year’s Bake Off winner) and it moved me to tears. I already loved her but hearing her talk about the struggles she faces as a British Muslim and how she deals with it in such a dignified way was very moving.

Is it just me, or do you find a food that you love then eat nothing but that until you are sick of it?! Well, I have discovered this honey flavoured Greek yogurt and have had it with blueberries every morning for the past week and am so obsessed I have 4 more tubs of it in my fridge.

Alongside the yogurt, I have also been having these rose and pineapple flavoured toasted sesame seeds my friend Lucie picked up for me at a food market. These seeds are delicious and really go with my new favourite breakfast.

I had a big clear out of my nail varnish collection this week and blogged about it. I honestly thought most people had this many bottles too but a few comments on social media have alerted me I have a bit of a problem!

I’m not usually that fussy with shower gels – I tend to pick something that smells nice but this one from Dove is lovely to use. It is so luxurious and creamy and my skin feels really soft and moisturised after using it.

I had managed to rack up a fair few Birchbox point (little tip – always do the quick reviews online to add to your points total!) so bought myself another tube of Model Co More Brows. I love this stuff as it not only adds colour to my fair brows but also contains microfibers to fill in any gaps.

I blogged about my new summer sandals this week and have been wearing them all trying to decide which are the comfiest pair to take on holiday with me next week.

I ordered some new rings this week. I flit between gold and silver jewellery and I love these chunky, silver cut-out rings.

Sunday Summary #34

I spent the whole of yesterday thinking it was Saturday, hence why my Sunday blog post is a day late!

We have been camping this week. We went with both sets of parents (and George the Jack Russell) to a lovely little campsite near Tewksbury and had a lovely time. I love sitting outside and chatting over wine and cups of tea as the sun sets. We visited Ledbury for a wander and my Mum and I enjoyed a cream tea in the sunshine.

However, there is nothing like getting home after spending a few nights in a tent. I ordered new bedroom furniture this week and our bed arrives in a few days…I’m very excited about it!

We have really been enjoying the Olympics this week, especially Mo winning after tripping over – amazing stuff. I’ve also been continuing to watch Sex and the City (onto series 3 now) and both Aiden and Trey have just arrived on the scene.

I started reading The Death of an Owl whilst camping and so far am quite enjoying it.

I love cooking when camping and my Dad brought a huge pan of his chicken cacciatore for us to enjoy with some fresh crusty bread. The next night, we had rib eye steaks…much tastier than the awful boil-in-the-bag offerings I ate during Duke of Edinburgh camping!

I have become obsessed with scones lately and in my opinion, you should always have jam then cream.

I bought some new pasta bowls this week so had to give them a whirl with a big ol’ portion of pesto pasta.

Finally, we held a BBQ yesterday which was delicious…especially the cold sausage sandwiches we had for supper!

This week, I began using a new shampoo and conditioner set from OGX. I love the coconut smell these have and, although they felt a bit heavy on my hair when using them, they left my curls looking great.

I only use face wipes very occasionally and camping is one of those situations! These Ole Henriksen ones were in a recent Birchbox and I really enjoyed using them. They were really refreshing and did a good job at removing make-up.

My Mum and I spent some time wandering around Ledbury, looking around the boutiques and I treated myself to this new ring. I love the pale blue colour and it has been a while since I wore a statement ring.

Sunday/ Monday Summary #32

Hello! I’m a day late with this week’s round up but I had such a lovely birthday weekend that I simply couldn’t find the time to blog. I’m home now though after a few days by the seaside celebrating my 31st birthday and our 3rd wedding anniversary with family.

My week started by saying goodbye to one set of friends on Sunday morning then getting things ready for another pair who came to stay with me at the start of the week. It was lovely to see my uni friends again. We went for a wander around Bradford on Avon, ordered a huge Indian takeaway for dinner then had brunch at Bill’s the next day followed by a mooch around Bath, all fuelled by lots of tea and chocolate! It’s funny how you take somewhere for granted and I think it’s only when I see this area through the eyes of visitors that I remind myself how lucky we are to live where we do.

I also went for a midweek Italian meal with my friends from work before we all head off on our summer breaks. I had a lovely seafood risotto which I know I can emulate at home.

This weekend was really great. My cousin was having a ‘Welcome to the World’ party for her two boys and organised the most wonderful mini-festival at my Uncle and Aunty’s house. We sat in the sun all day drinking Pimms, enjoyed a hog roast, watched the sun set then nibbled on cheese and danced the night away. It was ace although I definitely hit the free bar a little too hard and ended up being sick when we got home…older but not wiser!

Sunday was our three year wedding anniversary and despite feeling ridiculously hungover, we packed up the car and headed to the beach. We spent the day at Croyde and it turned out to be a beautiful day. My parents packed a delicious picnic and after a doze, I was feeling a bit more like myself. We even managed a paddle in the sea before stopping off for fish and chips on the way home.

I have started rewatching Sex and the City this week and have almost finished series one. I used to be obsessed with this show and I was interested to see whether or not it would have stood the test of time. So far, I’m finding this series a little dated if I’m honest: everyone smokes; they keep referring to Mr Big as ‘the next Donald Trump’; the girls all wear glittery eyeshadow and things like tongue rings and gay marriage are seen as quite controversial. I know it reflects the time it was made in but I’m hoping I get a little bit more into again as I start series 2.

In slightly less exciting news, I have spent this week cleaning out and reorganising my kitchen cupboards. Yes, not the most exciting task but I’m finding it a good excuse for a clear out and I have Sex and the City playing to keep me going!

I had a bit of play around with recipes this week and made a bacon and avocado risotto. I often make an avocado pasta dish and it lent itself well to a creamy risotto too…I will post the recipe later this week.

One of my highlights of the week was this feast my Dad prepared for us. He made lots of my favourite tapas dishes including patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo and these little smoked salmon and caviar bites…the perks of having a chef for a Dad!

My birthday breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs – my favourite!

I rediscovered a purple lip when I went out for dinner this week. I’m wearing a Laqa & Co lip pencil in the shade Menatour and it is one of my favourites for a night out.

I have also been loving the eyebrow pencil I got in July’s Birchbox. I know I said it looked too dark for me but it’s actually a nice match and applies like a dream.

I bought this loose top from Matalan recently and wore it on my birthday. I love the dangly tassels hanging down from it and it keeps you cool yet covered up in the sun.

A sneak peek of some of my birthday presents now but I love them so much I started wearing them right away! Ian got me this set of tiny mixed gold studs from Accessorize. I saw them on Hannah Gale’s blog and decided they were exactly what I was looking for.

My Mum also got me this gorgeous pair of marble-print leggings which I had been eyeing up for a while. I have them on as I type and they are really comfortable.

Latest Purchases #97 – A Primark haul

I’m not sure what’s wrong with me at the moment but I cannot stop shopping!  This post is not from one haul but rather a collection of things that I’ve picked up from Primark over the past month or so. It’s not particularly summery but then again neither is the weather at the moment!

First of all, some beach towels. I actually have a family party on my birthday this year but the next day I am planning a day at the beach. We either take our nice towels from home, which I hate getting sandy, or our old towels, which I don’t particularly like either, so when I saw these colourful beach towels, I had to get them. There seems to be a bit of a trend for circular beach towels at the moment too which I also really like.

Also from the home section was this bright ‘Hola’ sign. I need to repaint my porch over the summer holidays and I thought this sign would be a nice welcome.

Some accessories now. Firstly, a pack of hair grips in a handy little box which will hopefully stop me losing them within a week.

I also decided to give the midi ring trend another go. Is it just me who likes the look of them but finds wearing them really uncomfortable?!

IMG_6901 IMG_6935

I love the bandana/ necktie trend and this coral pink one is a bit different to the usual red or navy varieties. I plan on wearing this in my hair mostly but will try the necktie look too.

I still love wearing scarves in the summer and this neon one is perfect. I love the colour and the print on it.

I really like the pyjama range in Primark and picked up this lovely grey set. I love the Aztec print and the neon coral colour and I bought both the shorts and pyjama bottoms depending on how hot I feel!

IMG_6923 IMG_6921 IMG_6922

I also found this blue and lace night top which is made of a really soft cotton.

I mentioned these Ramones t-shirts on one of my Sunday Summary posts recently. I got a leopard print and a black one with the infamous logo on the front. I like how the black one has a tie detail in the corner too.

IMG_6918 IMG_6917 IMG_6904

Sticking with tops, I bought some printed trousers recently and wanted some plain white tees to go with them. I picked up one with some embellishment around the neckline and a ‘boyfriend tee’ which is slightly distressed and longer at the back.

IMG_6905 IMG_6906 IMG_6908

I also bought a long sleeved white top too.

I love the Bardot trend which is everywhere at the moment but do struggle to wear them. I like showing off my shoulders but have always struggled to find strapless bras for a larger chest. This top looks good both ways (off the shoulder or as a normal sleeved top) and I particularly like the little pompom trim along the sleeves.

IMG_6912 IMG_6913

I’m not sure about this striped top if I’m honest. It definitely looks better when it’s on rather than on the hanger.

A bit of a boring purchase  now – a pair of black skinny jeans. I have to admit the colour fades quite quickly on these but they are so comfortable to wear.

Finally, I’m having a bit of a thing with star prints at the moment and bought this long-sleeved top and cardigan, both of which I love!

IMG_6909 IMG_6910

A good mix from Primark and all real bargains. I have a couple more shopping sprees to share in the next few weeks then I really must zip up my wallet for a little while! x
