Happy New Year!

Yes, it’s that time again where you can make wildly optimistic statements about the year ahead then beat yourself up in a few weeks when you fail to stick to them!

There’s something special about January though and that feeling of starting afresh. Ian and I had a very low-key New Year’s Eve at home. He cooked for us; scallops and chorizo, followed by BBQ ribs and new potatoes –  a perfect meal to see in the New Year along with some ‘Dark ‘n’ Stormy’ cocktails and a bit of Jools Holland. After spending the last few days driving around nonstop, it was a perfect evening.

And so onto my 2015 New Year Resolutions…

Get Organised! More of a mantra than a resolution, I am determined to be a bit more organised this year. I am somewhat of a list maker at work and it is a lifesaver but I don’t seem to do the same at home. We have lived in our house for almost three years and we still have a room where we haven’t finished unpacking or sorting out the final few boxes – dreadful I know! This year, I plan to follow the ‘5 things’ approach where every day you pick 5 things to either put away or sort out. I think this is a very manageable way of doing things and I am determined to reclaim our spare bedroom!

Read more. I have stacks of unread books and Ian will often buy me new releases for my Kindle but I am terrible at making the time for a good book. 2015 will be the year I reclaim my bookworm status.

Run. I really got in to running in the run-up to our wedding and enjoyed the fresh air and country lanes around our village. I feel very unfit at the moment so am going to build back up slowly and hopefully get back into the habit of running. I pulled on my Nikes this morning and went for a 3mile half-run/ half-walk which I was dreading but weirdly loved when I was singing along to I am the Avalanche and getting all hot and sweaty!

Cook the classics. There are a number of recipes I am determined to master that I have never attempted before such as homemade mayonnaise and the perfect cheese soufflé. Of course I will share my triumphs and disasters on here!

Travel! Ian and I love a weekend away and this year we managed to fit a few lovely trips in. This is the year I turn 30 *vom* and I am determined to do it in style. We have been perusing travel guides recently and are almost decided on our route for this year’s summer adventure!

I could go on making virtuous wishes but I think 5 will do for now. It’s a rather uninspiring grey, drizzle day today but I am feeling excited about the year ahead and am only aching a tiny bit after my run this morning!

Are you making any goal for 2015? x

About hannahhotcakes

My name is Hannah. I live near Bath in a lovely village in the Cotswolds with my husband Ian, the love of my life for the past 10 years, in our dream cottage. I have landed my dream job as a primary school teacher and I can’t think of anything else I would rather be doing. I am a self-confessed foodie and I love to cook, bake, and eat out as much as possible. Here are some things I love: My friends and family, travelling, fresh flowers, good books, having breakfast on my balcony, horror films, Christmas, tea, Las Vegas, lie-ins, red wine, Liverpool FC, music, sausage dogs, Spain, rare steak, fashion, cheese, American TV series and camping. And here are my pet hates: People dressed as animals, whistling, being rushed, being made to wait, girls who act stupid to impress a man, spiders, sunburn and rocket (it comes with EVERYTHING!)
