July Favourites

I must stop beginning these ‘Favourites’ posts each month with “I can’t believe it is March/ May/ July” but it did make me sit up in bed this morning when the radio announced it was the 1st of August!

I guess we all feel a bit cheated by the poor excuse for a summer we have had so far and I for one kept up the belief that “at least it will be sunny by the time we get to August”. So far, so cloudy!

Being my birthday month, July is always a favourite of mine. This year saw the end of my first year teaching and the start of the long summer holidays.

We started the month in Liverpool, one of my favourite UK cities.

I finished my Euro 2012 cooking challenge with my Spanish prawns just as Spain lifted the trophy.

Decorating got underway with our next room; the dining room. It is still a work in progress but the end is in sight and I ordered the most gorgeous shabby chic chandelier yesterday to put up when all the painting is done!

We visited the rather delicious Streat Food event in Bath:

We finally were able to get out in the garden and start taming it after all the rain!

And enjoy a few barbecues and bonfires along the way:

Ian and I also had a few days away camping in Dorset for my birthday…eating, drinking, paddling and generally making the most of the few days of sunshine we had!

Here are some of my favourite dishes of July:

And some of my favourite photos:

I have a to-do list as long as my arm for August. When we moved back in March, we didn’t full unpack thinking that a long 6 week holiday would be the perfect time to get the house in some sort of order. Well that time is here and I am determined to clear the last few boxes, get another room painted and a new bathroom installed by September…watch this space! x

About hannahhotcakes

My name is Hannah. I live near Bath in a lovely village in the Cotswolds with my husband Ian, the love of my life for the past 10 years, in our dream cottage. I have landed my dream job as a primary school teacher and I can’t think of anything else I would rather be doing. I am a self-confessed foodie and I love to cook, bake, and eat out as much as possible. Here are some things I love: My friends and family, travelling, fresh flowers, good books, having breakfast on my balcony, horror films, Christmas, tea, Las Vegas, lie-ins, red wine, Liverpool FC, music, sausage dogs, Spain, rare steak, fashion, cheese, American TV series and camping. And here are my pet hates: People dressed as animals, whistling, being rushed, being made to wait, girls who act stupid to impress a man, spiders, sunburn and rocket (it comes with EVERYTHING!)
